Two Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary who live and minister in the Diocese of San Jose marked milestone jubilees at a special liturgy celebrated by Father Anthony McGuire at St. Ignatius Church, San Francisco, April 25.
Bishop Patrick J. McGrath was also present at the jubilee and offered remarks at the end of the liturgy reflecting on his long association with the Sisters of the Presentation.
Sister Jude Ristey, PBVM, and Sister Vivian Vaccari, PBVM, both celebrated their diamond jubilees, 60 years, from profession of vows as Sisters of the Presentation.
Sister Jude, a native of San Jose, is a graduate of St. Patrick Elementary School and Notre Dame High School, San Jose. Currently, Sister Jude ministers at the Archives of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. She also volunteers at Sacred Heart Community Services in San Jose.
Sister Jude taught in Catholic schools for 30 years, including St. Mary School, Gilroy, and St. John Vianney School, San Jose.
In 1980 she began ministry as
a member of the Marriage Tribunal staff in the Archdiocese of San Francisco and transferred to San Jose when it became a diocese in 1981. She served in the tribunal for 20 years as an advocate, case instructor and manager.
In 2000, she was honored by Bishop McGrath with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice award, the highest papal honor awarded to the laity.
Sister Vivian Vaccari, PBVM, is retired from full time ministry. Since her retirement, she has been involved in volunteer work and in pursuing her interest in ecospirituality. Beginning her ministry as a Catholic elementary teacher in 1949, Sister Vivian’s experience includes teaching at St. Patrick School and at St. Christopher School, San Jose.
During her 14 years at St. Christopher School, Sister Vivian developed one of the first computer labs and computer science curriculums in the San Jose diocese for elementary age students.
A reception for the jubilarians and their guests followed at Fromm Hall on the University of San Francisco campus.
